Why does my cat not like me touching her paws?

Most cats don’t like having their paws touched.
Some cats will allow you to touch them, but that may just be tolerating you, not enjoying it…
This is usually due to:
1、Cat’s Self-Preservation
Cats are both predators and prey. This forces them to be constantly vigilant and protective.
2、A cat’s claws, like their teeth, are one of their primary defense mechanisms.
When you hold a cat’s paw, you’re essentially grabbing its most powerful weapon of defense, which can make it feel uneasy and vulnerable.
3、Touching sensitive areas of the paw pads
Cats use their paw pads to detect vibrations in the ground, predict the approach of predators or prey, sense weather changes, detect temperature differences between the ground and objects, and better gauge their balance and speed.
4、A cat’s paw pads are covered in nerve endings and are very sensitive.
Simply touching or pinching a cat can be uncomfortable or even painful.
5、Psychological trauma from negative memories
If you’ve ever cut a cat’s nail while clipping it, cut a nail on a curtain, or even broken it, scratched it when startled or stressed, or accidentally stepped on…
Although cats may have forgotten these traumatic experiences, the fear, pain, and stress of having their claws restrained linger, creating a psychological scar.
When you hold their paw, they sense that something bad is about to happen.
6、Injury
If your cat usually allows you to touch its paw but suddenly refuses to do so, it’s likely injured.
