Don’t buy the wrong toys again! These are actually the two colors cats like best.

What’s a cat’s favorite color?

Red or green?

Cats primarily see green.

Humans typically have three types of cone cells, enabling them to recognize various colors created by combinations of the three primary colors, with a visible light wavelength range of approximately 780–400 nm.

Cats, however, only have two types of cone cells, limiting their visible light wavelength range to approximately 450 nm–556 nm.

The visible area is only about the length shown in the image below, covering only blue and green:

Not being able to see red doesn’t mean they can’t distinguish it.

While a cat’s cone cells only perceive the green range of visible light and cannot truly see yellow or red, green appears as a vibrant, multicolored green to a cat. What humans perceive as red and yellow will appear as different shades of green to a cat.

Therefore, cats can distinguish between what we perceive as “red,” “yellow,” and true green based on the varying brightness of different shades of green.

When buying toys, cat owners can prioritize red, blue, and green. As for which color your cat prefers, you can only observe it gradually through daily practice.
